If you’re planning a Valentine’s day wedding or special event, then you know it’s hard to sift through all the cheesy Valentines day decor inspiration. Let’s be real… What are the first two colors that come to mind when someone says “valentine”? Pink and red!
Too many pinterest boards are full of candy, giant pink hearts, and red roses. If that’s your jam, I love that for you – but I’m here to tell you that there is so much MORE you can do with a Valentine’s day theme, especially when it comes to flowers!
While roses are the go-to for Valentine’s Day inspiration, there are so many other options out there that make for perfect arrangements! Here are a few of my favorites:
Ranunculus – Did you know that ranunculus actually means “everlasting love”? Talk about perfect for this holiday!
Peonies – I love peonies solely because they are huge blooms! The bigger the better, right?
Orchids – Traditional for other holidays, but out of the box for Valentine’s day!
Carnations – If you’re looking for a similar vibe to roses, this is your best bet!
The easiest way to break out of the traditional valentine box is to incorporate unique colors into your color palette. For Amy + Hunter’s special day, we did just that! Amy wanted big and bold, just like Texas, but with a touch of Valentine’s day. Their arrangements were full of carnations, chunky roses, alliums, and baby’s breathe. We added lavender and orange hues, which really took these arrangements over the top.
If you want hearts to take center stage, then let’s take it and run. Take The York’s for example! When this amazing couple came to me, and their wedding was on Valentines weekend, I instantly saw a vision. We decided to lean into that, and I ran with a moody valentines theme. We took the hearts, and turned it into an elegant ceremony centerpiece. Add on top of that a moodier color palette, and you get elegant and chic. Not bright and cheesy!
A great accent to add to moodier color palettes is dark tapered candles. Personally, my favorite are black candles, but we went with burgundy for this wedding.
Need even more Valentine’s day inspiration? I recently collaborated on a styled shoot with Veiled + Vine Photo, right in time for the holiday! If you’re looking for a very romantic, traditional Valentine’s Day vibe, then take this as your inspo!
All in all, Valentine’s day doesn’t have to be a repeat of everything you see online. Get creative, try something new, and I’m sure your event will be one for the books.
