Designing the florals for Jamie’s baby shower was all about creating something immersive, calming, and quietly striking. From the very beginning, I knew I wanted to lean into a Monochrome floral design and not just as a color choice, but as a full visual language that could carry the entire space.

Working within a tight palette of blues gave us the opportunity to explore depth instead of distraction. Rather than relying on contrasting colors, the design focused on layering tones (think soft powder blues and velvety cobalt). This approach allowed each arrangement to feel cohesive while still holding its own personality.
The magic of Monochrome floral design really shows up when you stop thinking about color as the main feature and start thinking about texture. That’s where this installation came alive.

We intentionally mixed a wide range of blooms to create visual movement and tactile contrast. Fluffy hydrangeas brought softness and volume, while structured roses added depth and grounding. Delicate filler flowers and airy sprigs created a sense of lightness, breaking up the density and giving the eye places to rest.
Even the fabric elements played a role. The draped blue textiles woven into the arrangements added fluidity and motion, almost mimicking water. It softened the structure of the florals and connected each piece across the space.
Ceramics and vessels were just as important! Patterned vases paired with solid pedestals helped echo the layered tones while introducing subtle visual breaks. Everything stayed within the same color family, but nothing felt flat.

Instead of treating each arrangement as a standalone piece, the florals were designed to interact with each other. Tall pedestal arrangements created height and presence, while lower pieces grounded the tables and added intimacy.
The tablescape was designed to feel like an extension of the larger installations. Candles in soft blue glass added glow and warmth, while smaller arrangements echoed the same textures in a more scaled-down way. This created a seamless flow throughout the entire space.
The result was a fully immersive environment where every detail felt connected…. an essential goal when working with Monochrome floral design.
At its core, this design was about restraint and intention. By limiting the palette, we were able to push creativity in other directions with shape, movement, layering, and emotion.
Jamie’s baby shower felt calm but elevated, playful but refined. The florals didn’t just decorate the space – they shaped it.
