The sun is shining and summer is here, which means wedding season is in full swing! Here at The Floral Eclectic we’re prepping for an amazing summer with some freaking cool clients. As a wedding florist, there are a ton of things we consider when designing floral for this time of year, and today I’m going to share a few of my best tips to set your summer wedding up for success!
One thing that I don’t see a lot of florists talk about is the longevity of flowers. There’s a lot of strategy in this actually! We design your flowers in a way that keeps them alive for your special day. When the weather gets really hot, the window in which they can stay alive shortens. The heat can very quickly wilt an entire arrangement if not stored and designed properly.
There are a few solutions to this problem:
First, hire a florist that knows what they’re doing in the heat of the summer. Texas weather is no joke, and it takes a special skill set to execute a wedding in 90+ degree temperatures.
Second, choose flowers that can withstand the heat longer. We love working with tropical blooms in the summer months, since they are used to the heat and humidity! As all flowers do, they will wilt eventually, but they can withstand the weather a lot longer than some spring blooms!
A few of my favorites are:
Lilies
Orchids
Birds of Paradise
Another standard practice we have here at The Floral Eclectic is refreshing your bouquet before the reception! If you’ve been out in the sun taking photos all afternoon, you may arrive to your reception with a few drooping blooms. Let us handle that for you, and we’ll make sure your bouquet is looking incredible again before you dance the night away!
We tend to know the seasons by their color palettes. Fall has warm reds and oranges, Spring is light and airy, while winter tends to have a lot of blues and whites… but what color palette is summer?
Truthfully, it can be whatever you want it to be! This time of year everything is green and lush, which leaves tons of room for bright and bold color palettes. Let your summer wedding be a time to experiment with color, since the season has left the palette wide open. Below are a few of my favorite bright palettes from the past few years!
Choose a venue with both indoor and outdoor capabilities. With the weather as unpredictable (and hot) as it is, it’s smart to have flexibility! A few of my favorite summer venues here in the Dallas FTW are are:
The best way (outside of floral) to cater your wedding day to the weather is to choose food and drinks that help beat the heat. Consider frozen drinks at your bar, a cold dessert, and plenty of ice to go around!
All in all, summer weddings are a dream. By choosing the right florist, venue, and menu, your wedding will be one to remember!
