The state fair is all about big flavors, bold colors, and a little friendly competition. So why not bring that same energy to floral design? The Floral Eclectic took inspiration from classic fairground food, red-and-white checkerboard patterns, and the excitement of a winning blue ribbon to create themed florals that are anything but ordinary.
This design brought the fun of the fair to life through bright flowers, playful details, and unexpected combinations. Inspired by hot dogs and hamburgers, these arrangements prove that floral design can be creative, a little weird, and completely unforgettable.
When you think of state fair food, hot dogs and hamburgers are probably near the top of the list. For this project, The Floral Eclectic translated those familiar favorites into a colorful floral display.

Red-and-white checkerboard containers and wrapping created an instant connection to classic picnic tables and fairground food stands. Bright blue ribbons added another layer of personality, tying the arrangements together with a nod to the blue ribbons awarded to competition winners.

Rather than keeping things traditional, Taylor leaned into the playful theme. The result was a collection of arrangements that felt bold, energetic, and full of character. Each piece had its own shape and personality while still contributing to a cohesive display.
The flowers did most of the talking. Rich red roses brought the look of classic ketchup-inspired red, while vibrant orange roses added warmth and a little extra punch. Yellow sunflowers introduced a sunny, unmistakably summery feel, and golden yellow blooms added even more brightness throughout the arrangements.
Soft lavender and purple delphinium created height and movement, reaching above the fuller flowers for a loose, garden-inspired silhouette. Cream and white flowers offered contrast against the saturated reds, oranges, and yellows. Textural accents and unusual stems added dimension, keeping the arrangements from feeling too polished or predictable.
The overall palette was a mix of fiery reds, vivid oranges, sunny yellows, soft purples, and pops of royal blue. Long blue ribbons draped over the edges of the display, creating movement and connecting the flowers to the winning blue ribbon concept.
These themed florals weren’t designed to blend into the background. They were meant to grab attention, spark conversation, and make people stop to take a closer look.
A great theme doesn’t have to mean using literal decorations everywhere. Sometimes, the best designs take a few recognizable details and build an entire visual story around them.

For this project, the checkerboard pattern did a lot of the work. It immediately brought to mind classic diner baskets, picnic blankets, and fair food served fresh off the grill. The blue ribbons added a playful award-winning touch, while the colorful flowers brought the whole concept to life.
The arrangements featured a mix of compact, full blooms and taller stems that reached upward and outward. This combination created an expressive silhouette with plenty of texture. The flowers spilled naturally from their containers, while the ribbons added movement and a strong pop of color against the dark display tables.
Every detail worked together to make the floral installation feel like part of the theme instead of an afterthought.
At The Floral Eclectic, floral design is about more than choosing pretty flowers. It’s about creating something that fits the personality, purpose, and atmosphere of an event.
That might mean designing romantic wedding flowers one weekend and creating a colorful, food-inspired installation the next. Taylor loves projects that leave room for experimentation, unexpected combinations, and creative problem-solving.
These themed florals are a perfect example of how flowers can support a larger concept. They can reinforce a brand identity, bring a party theme to life, or become the main attraction at an event. With the right mix of color, texture, containers, and thoughtful details, floral design can turn even a familiar idea into something completely original.
The Floral Eclectic creates custom floral designs for weddings, corporate events, brand activations, private parties, and more. Based in Dallas, Texas, Taylor works with clients who want something personal, colorful, and a little unexpected.
